Folios 243-244. [Continued from MH 12/5969/] Letter from Donlevy to Farnall, 16 June 1852. He states that during the recent cholera outbreak he was appointed by the Liverpool Select Vestry as medical superintendent and manager over the hospital, duties which he fulfilled to 'their highest satisfaction'. He was then appointed to a vacant district and another district was then added, with a small increase in salary, making his duties 'most onerous'. At the beginning of last October he employed Graham to vaccinate for him, paying him for each case. He examined some of the cases and having found that they were correct assumed that they were generally correct, especially knowing that the relieving officer would delete any which were not correct, as was the usual custom. The cases selected for examination by the investigation were returned to him as correct by Graham. There appears to have been some confusion in identifying Donlevy and Graham, due to the similarity of their appearance. He asserts that he is not guilty of any wrongdoing and that his only error was of judgement in the verification and omission of Graham's name, especially as he was inexperienced. Prior to sending in his account he enquired at the parish office of any had been struck off, but was told that all were correct. His account was not paid for two months, sufficient time for any required investigation. Ollis was employed throughout this time. He would be unlikely to hazard his previously unsullied reputation or jeopardise his support of his wife and family, as he no longer has his private practice, for the sake of a 'few paltry shillings'. He expresses his thanks to the guardians for the courteous way in which this painful investigation has been conducted. [Continued at MH 12/5969/]
