Description
Content
Folio 201. Letter from Charles Hart, Clerk to the Liverpool Select Vestry, to the Poor Law Board, giving details of appointments made: 1. George Story, Collector of Poor Rates, in place of Henry Perris, resigned. 2. Mary Robinson, Children's Cook at the Industrial Schools, in place of Mary Bennett, salary £8 8s per annum, including board, washing and lodging. 3. Catherine Hindson, domestic servant, in place of Sarah Vance, salary £8 8s per annum, including board, washing and lodging. Annotated: Henry Perris appointed Collector in September 1848. Harry Burrard Farnall, Poor Law Inspector, queries if such an appointment can be made without an order from the Poor Law Board. There follows an exchange between Farnall and William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Board, and it is decided, after enquiry, that collectors can be considered to be assistant overseers and therefore can be appointed under Section 39 of the Liverpool Local Act. Paper Number: 25902/1852.
