Description
Content
Folios 198-199. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to Henry Emett, Medical Officer, Liverpool Select Vestry. The Poor Law Board has received a report from Harry Burrard Farnall, Poor Law Inspector, on the alleged neglect by Emett in the case of the confinement of Mary Hargreaves [Mary Hargraves], the wife of Thomas Hargreaves [Thomas Hargraves], with the depositions of witnesses. The Poor Law Board conclude that it is his duty to attend all cases where an order to do so has been issued. In this case such an order had been issued and the violent and drunken behaviour of Hargreaves, was no excuse for Emett not to attend. They regard Emett's conduct with 'much dissatisfaction' and any recurrence will lead the Poor Law Board to 'doubt your fitness for the office which you hold.' Paper Number: 25613/1852.
