- Folio 159. Letter from Charles Hart, Clerk to the Liverpool Select Vestry, to the Poor Law Board, acknowledging receipt of letter dated 30 April 1852, relating to the increase in the number of paupers in the first week of the quarter. He explains that paupers included for the first time were 'destitute wayfarers casually passing through' and were mainly 'returning emigrants, and mechanics and labourers looking for work'. Annotated: note this explanation in the book of returns. Paper Number: 14691/1852.
