Folio 54: Bernard Rowe and Terence McManus slept better, headache gone, complain of cough and pain in their breasts and sides.
Folio 54: 3 September 1819, Patrick McMahon and Gogarty improve fast, Carr's throat quite well. Michael Lane complains of debility. Bernard Corcoran and Michael Divine complain with griping and bowels rather bound. Bernard Rowe, the blister has risen well, pain in his sides entirely gone, headache also. John Irvin, gums appear quite spongy again. Andrew Hinds now pretty free from complaint, b[owels] easy, appetite rather weak. John Sweeny still very debilitated.
Folio 55: 3 September 1819, William Kirk, one of the cooks, from being [exposed] to [heavy rain] today was suddenly seized with a violent pain across his loins. John Gorman complained with pain in his limbs.
Folio 55: 4 September 1819, Bernard Rowe rested badly, quite free from pains but appears much debilitated. Terence McManus passed a bad night form the cough. Michael Donnelly complains still of shooting pains in his back and between his shoulders, with cough. William Kirk, the pain in his back is rather abated but is unable to move from the violent return of the pain. Michael Dineen has griping and purging. Thomas Barry complains of griping, also James [Drum]. Bernard Corcoran and Peter Murphy complain with frequent cough and slight pain in their breasts, also Francis Graves. John Maginnis and James Rice nearly free from complaint. Jonathan Irvin and Walter Sweeny gums quite spongy. Bryan McGrouthen complains with nausea and frequent vomiting.
Folio 56: 5 September 1819, John Irvin, Walter Sweeny and Gogarty, scorbutic symptoms, declining fast. John Sweeny still weakly, appetite good, the scorbutic appearance in his mouth and gums mostly disappeared. Tully improves in health and strength, Darby Shanaghan's ulcer nearly well, Hamilton's abscess nearly well also, general health improved. James Drum griping and purging. Bryan McGrouthen has frequent nausea and vomiting.
Folio 56: 6 September 1819, Donnelly still bound, Maginnis, Rice and John Sweeny improve, John Kinna complains with griping and purging. Walter Sweeny, Irvin and Gogarty nearly free from the scorbutic affection. Bernard Corcoran, Francis Garvey [Graves] and Peter Murphy, cough better. Christopher Gallagher complains of severe pain in his right hip. James Drum has had frequent griping stools with blood, skin rather hot, p[ulse] a little quick.
Folio 57: 6 September 1819, Michael Moran complains with frequent cough, headache, slight pain in his breast.
Folio 57: 7 September 1819, James Drum passed an easy night, two stools, griping still. Gallagher, the pain in his hip has nearly left him, pain in the thigh and knee. Michael Dineen complains of frequent purging with tenesmus. William Underwood complains with frequent cough, pain in his chest and constipated bowels. John Maginnis and Rice improve daily. Gogarty and Irvin nearly well. William Kirk quite free from pains. Edward Cullen complains with constipated bowels. Patrick Cunningham complains with severe pains in his back and loins.
Folio 57: 8 September 1819, James Smith, Peter Murphy and Jonathan O'Hara complain with cough, slight headache and pain in their breasts on coughing.
Folio 58: 8 September 1819, Patrick McMahon continues pretty well in his strength and appetite, James Rice, John Maginnis and Jonathan Sweeny continue to improve. Terence McManus, slept well, cough nearly gone, but complains of profuse perspiration and debility. Christopher Gallagher, pains much abated. Patrick Owens has an open abscess under his left armpit which he says has been collecting and discharging these five months, at present there is a discharge of thin pus with a little surrounding inflammation. James Rodgers has had a cough which is much relieved complains of debility and impaired appetite.
Folio 58: 9 September 1819, Jeremiah Buckly complained previous night with griping, frequent stools and tenesmus, this morning symptoms abated. Peter Murphy, John Dean, Bernard Corcoran, Peter Levins, and James Smith, frequent cough, headache and pains in the breast. James Rodgers rather better. Francis Hand and Jonathan O'Hara complain with cough. Terence McManus passed a bad night from frequent cough and pain in his breast, expectoration again difficult. Daniel Byrne complains of debility and impaired appetite. William Underwood, severe cough, difficult expectoration and slight pain in his chest.
Folio 59: 9 September 1819, Patrick Owens, the abscess under his arm is discharging a healthier pus, less swelled and inflamed. Edmond Doyle complains with severe headache, pains in his ears and frequent cough.
Folio 59: 10 September 1819, made land this morning supposed to be to the northwards of Bass Strait. Andrew May complains with purging and griping. Cornelius Ring complains with severe hard cough. Peter Levins and John Dean complain with frequent hard cough. Patrick Tully and Gogarty both improve. William Kavanagh complains with griping and purging. John Coyle complains with nausea and headache and frequent vicious vomiting. John Brownly complains with griping and purging. Andrew Hinds, frequent cough, pain in his breast and general pains in his limbs. James Rodgers complained suddenly with violent pain about the umbilical region, pulse small with a cold perspiration. Thomas Birmingham, b[owels] bound.
Folio 59: 11 September 1819, James Rodgers seized with violent spasms about the umbilical region after taking a draught of cold water at 3 am.
Folio 60: 11 September 1819, Cornelius Ring, Bernard Corcoran, Peter Levins and William Underwood, cough has been rather easier, expectoration freer. James Drum, Michael Dineen and Andrew May, slept well, bowels easier, still rather loose with griping. Thomas Freeburn complains with cold and severe headache, b[owels] rather bound. Tully, general health and strength improved, appetite bad, b[owels] regular. Thomas Birmingham much better. Michael Owens, abscess nearly well, general health improved. Bernard Rowe and Terence McManus, slept well, cough less, appetite and strength improving. At 1 pm [James] Rodgers complained of a return of the spasms about the lower part of his abdomen, at 6 pm had comfortable sound sleep and free from pain. Bryan McGrouthen complains of headache and general pains. Andrew Hinds, pains in his sides and limbs, with cough.
Folio 60: 12 September 1819, James Rodgers had two loose copious stools during the night, slept until 2:30 am when he complained of a violent return of the pain about the right iliac region rather lower than before, had some sleep between 5 and 8 am, appears very weak and exhausted, the pain abated. Peter Levins, O'Hara and Peter Murphy still complain with cough which is rather abated. James Drum and Michael Dineen, still slight purging and griping.
Folio 61: 12 September 1819, John Sweeny, Walter Sweeny and Christopher Gallagher, improved in strength. Jonathan Irvin and Patrick Gogarty, nearly well. John Brownly complains of sore mouth and throat, Jonathan McCarty also. Thomas Birmingham complains of headache and pain in his back with general debility. [James Rodgers?] at 3 pm slight return of pain with frequent vomiting of everything he takes without the least [sense] of pain at stomach. At 9 pm, Rodgers, the sickness at stomach returns frequently without any pain. At 12 he has been a little easier and has taken some nourishment and slept a little.
