Folios 344-345. Letter from Henry Saunders, Clerk to the Guardians of the Kidderminster Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board, forwarding a copy of the minutes of the board of guardians who have appointed George Duncan as Collector for Kidderminster Foreign in place of Thomas Strafford Giles, resigned. Enclosed copy of minutes of the guardians held on the 23 May 1848 appointing a collector of the poor rates for the Kidderminster Foreign in place of Thomas Strafford Giles, who had resigned. The candidates were as follows: Charles Smith, James Ward, John Griffiths, Herbert Willis and George Duncan. The meeting proceeded as follows: 1. The clerk, having read the applications and testimonials, took the votes and George Duncan was appointed. 2. He was to be paid 4d in the £ on rates collected over £3 and 8d in the £ on rates collected under £3. 3. He must find two sureties for his due performance of office according to existing orders of the Poor Law Board, subject to any further regulations. 4. Mr Duncan was informed of his election and gave as his sureties: Leonard Duncan, Kidderminster, Maltster and John Shemmons of Kidderminster Foreign, Gentleman. 5. The Poor Law Board was to be notified of the appointment. Annotation: Order dated 6 December 1836. Authorize the appointment of the Collector provided that he is paid at the rate stated in the letter. The Order provides for the appointment. Send the form and enquire the cause of resignation. Paper Number: 15562/1848. Poor Law Union Number 530. Counties: Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
