- Folio 322. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to Henry Saunders, Clerk to the Guardians of the Kidderminster Poor Law Union, concerning the appointment of Miss Matilda Underwood as Schoolmistress of the Kidderminster Workhouse in place of Miss Mary Barber who has resigned. The union is informed that the Board sanctions the appointment of Miss Underwood for a 3 month period on trial. Her salary is £20 a year with the allowance of rations. The Board requires a report on how she discharged her duties, at the end of the trial period. The Board doubts whether a person as young as Miss Underwood is competent for the post. Annotation: no reply had been received by 9 September 1848. Write for a report, 11 September 1848. Paper Number: 13847/1848. Poor Law Union Number 530. Counties: Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
