Folios 320-321. Appointment form for Matilda Underwood as Schoolmistress for the Kidderminster Poor Law Union. The form shows her as aged 19½, from Kidderminster. Her previous occupation was Sunday school teacher and teacher at an infants school. Her pay will be £20 per annum and rations etc. Testimonials were provided by [the Reverend James Charles -----] and Messrs Lea. The post became vacant on the voluntary resignation of Mary Barber. Annotation: the Board doubts whether a person as young as Miss Underwood would be competent for this post. Sanction for 3 months and write accordingly. Paper Number: 13847/1848. Poor Law Union Number 530. Counties: Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
