Description
Content
Folios 317-318. Letter from Henry Saunders, Clerk to the Guardians of the Kidderminster Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board, referring to a letter dated 15 October 1847 requesting guardians signatures on an order for proposed alterations of the 'Itch, Venereal and Idiot Wards' at the workhouse. Following the Poor Law Board letter of 6 May 1848, requesting the guardians immediate attention to the subject, Saunders states that the Lunacy Commissioners recommended a separate yard for the 'Idiot Ward' but there is no such yard marked on the approved plan. It would be impossible to attach a yard without major alteration to the plan and considerable additional expense. Saunders enquires if the present plan may be followed, possibly with minor alterations. He states further that only 11 of last year's guardians signed the consent form when 19 was the required number. Possibly the addition of a requisite number of present guardians would make the consent valid. Annotation: the first part of their letter should be attended to immediately. A majority of the present board of guardians should sign the consent. Paper Number: 13846/1848. Poor Law Union Number 530. Counties: Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
