Folios 310-311. Letter from Henry Saunders, Clerk to the Guardians of the Kidderminster Poor Law Union, requesting sanction for the appointment of George Parsons as Collector of Poor Rates for Lower Mitton [Stourport], in place of Thomas Strafford Giles, who has resigned; enclosed is a copy of the proceedings of the guardians. At a meeting of the guardians on 2 May 1848, for the election of a collector of poor rates for the Hamlet of Lower Mitton, there were two candidates: James Ward of Kidderminster and George Parsons of Stourport. It was moved by Mr Heath and seconded by Mr Wright that George Parsons be elected. On all rates equal or less than £3 he was to be paid 6d in the pound. Annotation: referring to [Order] dated [December 1836] authorising the appointment of collectors of poor rates in the union parishes, the Board directs that the pay should be 4d in the pound on 'Inns' [incomings] above £3, and 8d in the pound on 'Inns' [incomings] equal or less than £3. The Order provides for the [appointment]. 'Send the Form'. Paper Number: 13203/1848. Poor Law Union Number 530. Counties: Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
