Folios 2-3: case no 1, Colston Deverell, aged 20, Ordinary Seaman, no 21; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, rheumatism, gonorrhoea and debility; put on sick list 22 December 1878, invalided 7 August 1879, discharged 26 August 1879 to HMS Opal for passage to England.
Folios 3-4: case no 2, Christopher Staples, aged 33, Gunner's Mate (c), no 46; taken ill at Tom Bay; sick or hurt, gunshot wound on the left hand accidentally; put on sick list 23 January 1879, discharged 18 March 1879 to duty, hurt certificate granted.

Folio 9: case no 8, William Maker, aged 27, Stoker, no 58; taken ill at Coquimbo; sick or hurt, syphilis primary; put on sick list 30 June 1879, sent 15 July 1879 to Naval Sick Quarter at Valparaiso, returned 30 September 1879 to the ship with an appearance of secondary syphilis.
Folio 9: case no 9, Thomas Rimell, aged 19, Ordinary Seaman, no 17; taken ill at Coquimbo; sick or hurt, gonorrhoea & bubo; put on sick list 2 July 1879, sent 15 July 1879 to Naval Sick Quarter at Valparaiso, returned 20 August 1879 to the ship afterwards discharged to duty.

Folio 11: case no 12, Henry Ecclestone, aged 29, Ship's Corporal, no 61; taken ill in Magellan Strait; sick or hurt, debilite and ague; put on sick list 25 January 1879, invalided 7 August 1879 at Valparaiso, discharged 26 August 1879 to HMS Opal for passage to England.
Folios 12-12A: case no 13, Thomas Picton (a Fuegian), aged 16, Ward Room Cook's Assistant, no 106; taken ill at Valparaiso; sick or hurt, pneumonia, a native of the West Coast of Patagonia, was taken on board in Trinidad Channel on 12 April 1879 with a view to be trained as interpreter, he belonged to the tribe known as 'Channel Fuegian', who lead a wandering life, up to the time of his last fatal illness he picked up so little of the English language as to be unable to hold communication with any one on board and at time had much difficulty in ascertaining the precise state of his health'; put on sick list 19 August 1879, died 21 August 1879
