Description

Folios 1-41: Copy of the sick list for 21 December 1825 to 7 August 1826.

Folios 42-45: Blank.

Folios 46-48: James Porter, aged 45, master at arms, taken ill at Portsmouth harbour; sick or hurt, pneumonia, acute pain in his chest impeding respiration, pulse full hard and quick; put on sick list 31 December 1825, discharged 31 January 1826.

Folio 49: Henry Goff, aged 23, marine, taken ill at Portsmouth harbour; sick or hurt, fever, slight febrile symptoms with occasional rigor and accelerated pulse; put on sick list 15 January 1826, sent 17 January 1826 to Haslar hospital.

Folio 49: John Pyatt, aged 21, seaman, taken ill at Portsmouth; sick or hurt, fever, slight febrile symptoms a small irregular pulse with occasional thirst; put on sick list 20 January 1826, sent 20 January 1826 to Haslar hospital.

Folio 50: John Andrews, aged 19, seaman, taken ill at Portsmouth harbour; sick or hurt, accident; put on sick list 21 January 1826, discharged 31 January 1826 to duty.

Folio 51: John Mitchell, aged 19, seaman, taken ill at Portsmouth harbour; sick or hurt, cephalalgia, headache functions little disturbed with the tongue brownish; put on sick list 22 January 1826, sent 29 January 1826 to Haslar hospital.

Folios 52-53: William Cousins, aged 28, seaman, taken ill at Spithead; sick or hurt, fever, headache and febrile symptoms; put on sick list 8 February 1826, sent 14 February 1826 to Plymouth hospital.

Folios 53-54: Thomas Campbell, aged 30, quarter master, taken ill at Spithead; sick or hurt, accident, fell down from the cook jack yard to the poop received a severe lacerated wound over the left eye and along the bridge of the [ball?]; put on sick list 8 February 1826, discharged 7 April 1826 to duty.

Folio 55: Cato White, aged 29, seaman, taken ill at Plymouth Sound; sick or hurt, fracture, simple fracture of the radius of the right arm a little below the centre of the bone; put on sick list 25 February 1826, discharged 25 June 1826 to duty.

Folios 55-58: Mr. Bailey, aged 17, midshipman, taken ill at Plymouth Sound; sick or hurt, biliary derangement, severe pain of spasmodic nature in epigastrium, attacking with great violence at times; put on sick list 25 February 1826, discharged 20 March 1826 to duty.

Folios 58-60: Henry Sawyer, aged 26, seaman, taken ill at Plymouth Sound; sick or hurt, fever, headache and giddiness, pulse slim and tongue natural and bowels constipated; put on sick list 26 February 1826, died 4 March 1826 at 11 pm.

Folios 60-65: Robert Harding, aged 19, seaman, taken ill at Plymouth Sound; sick or hurt, fever, chilliness over his body continue for some time succeeded by a dull pain across the forehead with a sense of stuper; put on sick list 28 February 1826, died 28 March 1826 at 4 am.

Folios 66-67: Mr Bywater, supernumerary assistant, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, dysentery, griping pains across the abdomen with frequent desire to go to stool some times with blood; put on sick list 3 March 1826, discharged 1 April 1826 to duty, put on the list again on 1 May and remained until the ship's arrival in Simons Bay.

Folios 67-68: William Osborne, aged 39, seaman, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, fever, severe frontal headache with general pain over his body particularly across the loins and joints; put on sick list 6 March 1826, discharged 2 April 1826 to duty.

Folios 68-69: James Field, aged 36, seaman, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, accident, headache from a blow he received over the left eye brow by falling against one of the guns; put on sick list 6 March 1826, discharged 26 March 1826 to duty.

Folios 70-71: Edward Bailey, aged 21, seaman, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, fever, pain and oppression in the thorax, headache and general febrile symptoms with swelling and inflammation of the glands; put on sick list 8 March 1826, discharged 2 April 1826 to duty.

Folio 71: the following 10 cases of fever were similar in symptoms and treatment to those of Osbourne and Bailey and were upon the sick list about the same time.

Folio 71: Sergeant Bishop, aged 36, sergeant, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list 10 March 1826, discharged 28 March 1826 to duty.

Folio 71: Mr Rice, aged 17, midshipman, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list 10 March 1826, discharged 6 April 1826 to duty. Folio 71: Mr. Willington, aged 16, midshipman, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list 10 March 1826, discharged 6 May 1826 to duty.

Folio 71: Lazarus Abraham, aged 22, seaman, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list 10 March 1826, discharged 1 April 1826 to duty.

Folio 71: John White, aged 37, seaman, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list 10 March 1826, discharged 30 March 1826 to duty.

Folio 71: Lieutenant Blake, aged 25, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list 10 March 1826, discharged 24 March 1826 to duty.

Folio 71: John Cosgrove, aged 26, seaman, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list 11 March 1826, discharged 3 April 1826 to duty.

Folio 71: James Glappen, aged 29, marine, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list 13 March 1826, discharged 6 April 1826 to duty.

Folio 71: Thomas Colville, aged 40, seaman, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list 22 March 1826, discharged 3 April 1826 to duty.

Folio 71: John Gardiner, aged 28, marine, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list 27 March 1826, discharged 2 Mar 1826 to duty.

Folios 72-73: Thomas Milligan, aged 32, seaman, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, accident, fell from the main rigging to the quarter deck; put on sick list 16 March 1826, discharged 30 Mar 1826 to duty.

Folios 73-74: Donald Young, aged 32, seaman, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, sarcocele, headache pain in his limbs and general febrile symptoms, also has an elastic tumour in the left testicle; put on sick list 27 March 1826, invalided 24 May 1826 at the Cape.

Folios 75-77: Humphrey Jones, aged 45, seaman, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, dysentery, severe cutting pains across the abdomen which is intensified and tender to the touch frequent calls to stool without a void; put on sick list 4 May 1826, invalided 24 May 1826, this man was on the sick list in March last of a similar complaint without the swelling of the abdomen.
