Folios 97-98. Draft letter from the W G L [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary of the Poor Law Commission], to William Ashton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union. He forwards a draft of a security which the Basford guardians may use with reference to the money they are to borrow from Messrs Smith [Samuel Smith and Co, Bankers of Nottingham] to arrange the repayment of the money advanced on behalf of the parishes in the Basford Union which do not pay off their entire quota. He requests the Commissioners be informed when the deed of conveyance has been executed. Attached is draft for the security document. It specifies that the sum of £1332 18s 1¼d is to be lent by Samuel Smith 'to be applied on behalf of the several parishes townships & places of Bridgeford, Carlton, Clifton, Cossal, Gotham, Newstead, Nuthall, Ruddington, Trowell, Wilford & Wollaton in obedience to orders under the hands and seal of the poor Law Comrs bearing date the 2nd day of December 1839 & the 24. Jan last'. It is to be paid in six annual instalments, and lawful interest is to be paid. [Interest rate not specified] Paper Number: 3629/B/1840. Poor Law Union Number 334. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
