Content
Folios 93-95. Letter from J Riley, Auditor to the Basford Union, to the Poor Law Commission, written at Papplewick. Referring to their letter of 27 Jan 1840, he encloses a list of the parishes and the amount of the money to be borrowed for each parish by the board of guardians, totalling £1332 18s 1¼d. He says that the rest of the Parishes have paid their shares. Riley says the party lending the money is Messrs Samuel Smith and Co, Bankers of Nottingham. It will be lent for six years from the 25 March 1840. He asks for 'a proper Form of Security' as mentioned in their letter of the above date. He adds that the two bills from the Parish of Carlton, if properly presented, shall be included in the parish accounts at the next audit. Attached is a list headed 'Parishes who borrow for the purchase of Basford Workhouse': Newstead, £39 10s 3¼d. Cossall, £43 4s 4¼d. Nuthall, £187 13s 9½d. Trowell, £74 1s 9¼d. Wollaton, £164 4s 7d. Bridgford, £76 18s 1¾d. Carlton, £300 0s 0d. Clifton, £47 10s 10d. Gotham, £200 0s 9¼d. Ruddington, £150 0s 7d. Wilford, £50 0s 0d. Total, £1332 18s 1¼d. Signed William Ashton [Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union]. Also attached, a list of the same parish names, headed 'Schedule'. Paper Number: 3629/B/1840.
