1 individual petition (Samuel Bartholomew) and 1 collective petition (25 inhabitants of Louth, Lincolnshire) on behalf of William Thompson convicted at Louth Town Session, Lincolnshire on 20 April 1833 for stealing 19 shillings from Henry Burrell, a cottager from Welton. There is an accompanying letter from E L Bulwer MP. Grounds for clemency: the prisoner has always been honest and sober, victim a worthless person who was drunk at the time of the robbery and therefore an unreliable witness, trial took place so quickly the prisoner had no time to call friends to testify on his behalf. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. AS 33
