1 collective petition (prisoner and John Hill, her father) on behalf of Mary Ann Hill, servant, convicted at the Old Bailey September 1829 of stealing a gold chain and nail brush, property of her employer Mr Davis, Sheriff's Officer. There is also a letter from Elizabeth Bell, previous employer supporting the petition and four character references for the prisoner. Grounds for clemency: age 19, not aware property was stolen when given it by a fellow servant, good character. Initial sentence: 7 years' transportation. Gaoler's report: nothing known against her previous character. Annotated: ordered to penitentiary 16 November 1829. KO26
