1 individual petition (prisoner) on behalf of Thomas Kirkman, machinist, convicted at the Old Bailey October Sessions 1829 of stealing a watchcase, property of George Paull watchmaker on 15 September 1829. There are also 3 affidavits that Kirkman was working for James Porter on 15 September. Grounds for clemency: prisoner was not in Paull's service on day of crime as prosecutor asserted, his sentence harsher because he supposedly robbed his employer, prisoner unprepared for this and did not bring a witness, wife has severe illness, first offence, present employer would take him back. Initial sentence: 14 years' transportation. Gaoler's report: in prison before, married, 2 children. Annotated: nil. KO11
