- Folios 221-222. Letter from William Powell, Clerk to the Guardians of the Newport Pagnell Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board, replying to their letter of 12 October 1853, number Paper Number: 35512/1853. In Wavendon, some cottages are built alongside a ditch which belongs to the owner of the adjoining land. The families in the cottage suffer from diarrhoea and fever, and the medical officer feels that the ditch and an open cesspool are the cause. A covered drain needs to be made to remove the effluent to a covered cesspool at some distance, which can only be done by taking the drain through the adjoining land. The guardians wish to know how to proceed. Annotated: that the guardians have no power to do this. 37379/1853. Poor Law Union Number 23. Counties: Buckinghamshire.
