Description

Folio 14: 13 May 1823, beds kept below, lower deck and bed cabins washed, daily routine.

Folio 14: 14 May 1823, punished P Haden for using slang language, to clean main deck for 8 days. Received 4 bread bags for trousers.

Folio 14: 15 May 1823, punished J McDade, J Finlay and J Stewart for being dirty and E Quin for fighting, to clean the main deck for 8 days.

Folio 14: 16 May 1823, the island of Trinidad [Ilha Trindade, Trinidade and Martim Vaz Islands] sighted in the evening.

Folio 15: 17 May 1823, at daylight lying to off Trinidad [Ilha Trindade, Trinidade and Martim Vaz Islands], a boat sent away to fish only caught two fish. Punished J Connor for insolence, confined on bread and water for 24 hours, and handcuffed together J Carrol, [M] Higgins and J Quin, for not attending for water.

Folio 15: W Cashy, Convict; disease or hurt, epilepsy. Put on sick list, 18 May 1823. Discharged, 10 July 1823.

Folio 15: 19 May 1823, punished J Cronan for quarrelling, to clean privy and fill cistern for 10 days.

Folio 15: 20 May 1823, L Mooney, J Murphy and J Fitzgerald punished for insolence to the Captain of the Deck, to be handcuffed together during the day and each to clean the privy and fill the cistern for 10 days.

Folio 15: J Brian, Convict; disease or hurt, dysentery. Put on sick list, 20 May 1823. Discharged, 31 May 1823.

Folio 15: J Coyle, Convict; disease or hurt, cough. Put on sick list, 20 May 1823. Discharged, 3 June 1823.

Folio 16: 23 May 1823, punished J Garver and E Quin for stealing water, handcuffed together during the day and each to clean the main deck for 10 days.

Folio 16: 24 May 1823, schoolmasters teaching in the morning, in the afternoon barbers employed shaving.

Folio 16: 25 May 1823, bad weather and no prayers on that account. Strong westerly gales with showery weather and heavy sea, 'shipped several seas and flooded main deck, put on gratings and tarpaulins'.

Folio 16: J Dunn, Boy; disease or hurt, accident. Put on sick list, 25 May 1823. Discharged, 3 July 1823.

Folio 16: 26 May 1823, punished J Cronan for quarrelling, to clean the main deck for 8 days, and W Barry to be confined on bread and water for 24 hours and also to clean the main deck for 8 days, for quarrelling with the Captain of the Ship.

Folio 16: W Porter, Convict; disease or hurt, dysentery, Put on sick list, 26 May 1823. Discharged, 4 August 1823.

Folio 16: 27 May 1823, punished W Doyle, J Doyle, W Irving, J Connor and J Lanagan for towing clothes overboard, to clean the main deck for 10 days, and [Jab Diarmud] and W Brown the same punishment for quarrelling.

Folio 16: 28 May 1823, examined all the [convict's] caps and 20 were found to be deficient, some 'wrapper' supplied to make new caps.

Folio 17: 29 May 1823, fair wind, occasional showers and a heavy sea.

Folio 17: 31 May 1823, punished F Dougan and F McCourt for quarrelling, to clean the main deck for 10 days.

Folio 17: 1 June 1823, Sunday, at 11 brought all the convicts on the quarter deck and read a sermon from Blair. Punished J Forbes, J Macarthy and J Brian for singing songs, confined on bread and water.

Folio 17: 2 June 1823, Punished D Call and E Quin for fighting, to clean the privy for 10 days.

Folio 17: [R] McDermot, Convict; disease or hurt, dysentery. Put on sick list, 2 June 1823. Discharged, 16 June 1823.

Folio 17: 3 June 1823, punished J Cronan for abusing the Captain of his mess, confined on bread and water for 24 hours and to clean the privy for 14 days, and J Finlay to clean the main deck for 8 days for abusing the Captain of the Deck.

Folio 18: 4 June 1823, daily routine, fair wind all day.
