Description

Folio 3: 7 March 1823, a boy punished with 6 lashes for thieving. All the irons examined and defectives ones replaced, several convicts placed in useful situations released to single irons.

Folio 3: D McCarthy, Convict; disease or hurt, phymosis. Put on sick list, 7 March 1823. Discharged, [date not found].

Folio 3: M Carrol, Convict; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 7 March 1823. Discharged, 28 March 1823.

Folio 3: M Brown, Convict; disease or hurt, catarrh. Put on sick list, 7 March 1823. Discharged, 3 April 1823.

Folio 3: J McGeogh, Convict; disease or hurt, catarrh. Put on sick list, 7 March 1823. Discharged, 27 March 1823.

Folio 3: 8 March 1823, issued a shirt, trousers and towel to each convict, all numbered.

Folio 3: 9 March 1823, issued duck [frocks] to the cook and water fillers. Weather frosty in the morning and generally fair. At anchor in the Cove of Cork.

Folio 3: H Bowes, Soldier; disease or hurt, catarrh. Put on sick list, 9 March 1823. Discharged, 16 March 1823.

Folio 3: 10 March 1823, commenced numbering the jackets, waistcoats and caps.

Folio 3: J Murphy, Convict; disease or hurt, catarrh. Put on sick list, 10 March 1823. Discharged, 14 April 1823.

Folio 3: 11 March 1823, a catholic priest came aboard to communicate with the convicts. Commenced numbering the trousers, shirts and stockings issued in the jail. Single ironed 21 convicts, chiefly old men.

Folio 3: B McDiarmid, Convict; disease or hurt, catarrh and rheumatism. Put on sick list, 11 March 1823. Discharged, 16 May 1823.

Folio 3: J Gallagher, Convict; disease or hurt, catarrh and diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 11 March 1823. Discharged, 3 April 1823.

Folio 3: A Stewart, Convict; disease or hurt, 'anomalous'. Put on sick list, 11 March 1823. Discharged, 7 July 1823.

Folio 4: 12 March 1823, punished P [Patrick] Brian with 24 cobs over the breech for stealing a handkerchief. All hands washing clothes until noon, at anchor in Cove of Cork.

Folio 4: 13 March 1823, J Brian and J Dunn lashed up in the rigging for 4 hours for fighting.

Folio 4: F McCourt, Convict; disease or hurt, catarrh. Put on sick list, 13 March 1823. Discharged, 14 April 1823.

Folio 4: B Flanigan [Flanagan], Convict; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 13 March 1823. Discharged, 29 March 1823.

Folio 4: J Bingham [Bigham], Convict; disease or hurt, pneumonia. Put on sick list, 13 March 1823. Discharged, 17 April 1823.

Folio 4: 14 March 1823, J Kelly and G Bilford shaved half their heads and confined them on bread and water for 24 hours for stealing biscuits. Dr Trevor came on board to inspect sick convicts previous to removal on shore.

Folio 4: T Finlay, Convict; disease or hurt, pneumonia. Put on sick list, 14 March 1823. Discharged, 20 March 1823.

Folio 4: 15 March 1823, J Gallon, J Donelly and W Halfpenny removed to hospital by steam boat. Received 2 convicts from Cork Jail by special order.

Folio 4: 16 March 1823, at anchor in the Cove of Cork.

Folio 4: T Connel, Convict; disease or hurt, dysentery. Put on sick list, 16 March 1823. Discharged, 24 March 1823.

Folio 4: T Maher [Mahon], Convict; disease or hurt, dysentery. Put on sick list, 16 March 1823. Discharged, 27 March 1823.

Folio 4: P Wallaghan, Convict; disease or hurt, pneumonia. Put on sick list, 17 March 1823. Discharged, 10 April 1823.

Folio 5: 18 March 1823, daily routine, at anchor in Cove of Cork.

Folio 5: M Carrol, Convict; disease or hurt, dysentery and catarrh. Put on sick list, 18 March 1823. Discharged, 27 March 1823.

Folio 5: 19 March 1823, handcuffed and [confined] on bread and water J Brian for stealing. Numbered stockings issued to each prisoner, irons removed from one sick man and 5 others single ironed. J Murphy given 18 lashes and J Fitz [Fitzgerald] 12 for indecent conduct to a woman. J Harrington and J Graham confined on bread and water for insolence.

Folio 5: E McDade, Convict; disease or hurt, pneumonia. Put on sick list, 19 March 1823. Discharged, 17 April 1823.

Folio 5: J Hagan, Soldier; disease or hurt, pneumonia. Put on sick list, 19 March 1823. Discharged, 29 March 1823.

Folio 5: 20 March 1823, D Duggan punished with 24 hours bread and water and confinement for neglecting muster and D Dignam handcuffed and confined for 24 hours on brad and water for spitting in a boy's eye and disobedience to Captain of deck.

Folio 5: T [Thomas] Sranan [Shernan], Convict; disease or hurt, catarrh. Put on sick list, 20 March 1823. Discharged, 9 April 1823.

Folio 5: 21 March 1823, handcuffed and half shaved the head of J Graham, for stealing tobacco, and handcuffed and double ironed J Finlay, for stealing a tobacco pouch, both were confined on bread and water.

Folio 5: R Walsh, Convict; disease or hurt, diarrhoea and catarrh. Put on sick list, 21 March 1823. Discharged, 9 April 1823.

Folio 5: 22 March 1823, irons taken off 11 sick convicts, 3 shirts and 1 pair of trousers lost overboard in drying. J [Nayley] confined on bread and water for 24 hours for losing a shirt.
