- Folio 266. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to W E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union. In reply to a letter of 28 May, requesting to sanction the overseers in employing and paying a person to collect the poor rates, until one has been duly appointed. Informing, that in the instance of the office of collector being vacant the duty of collecting the rates devolves upon the overseer. The Board are not vested with the power to authorise the overseer to employ and pay a person to perform that duty for them. Paper Number: 21397/1855. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
