- Folio 265. Letter from W E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board. Enquiring if a small sum form the poor rates would be sanctioned to enable the overseers to employ a temporary collector of poor rates in the parish until someone can be appointed permanently being subject of approval. Annotated: say that whilst the vacancy of overseer or collector is vacant the duty of collecting the rate devolves upon the overseer and the board are not invested with any authority under which they could empower those officers to employ and pay a person employed by the overseer to perform that duty for them. Paper Number: 21397/1855. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
