Folio 211. Letter from W E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board. Submitting the cases of the following persons being given relief out of the workhouse. 1. Thomas Dickenson a quarry labourer a steady and industrious worker never before having claimed relief is; ordered 2s and 24lbs of bread for one week; has a [wife; Ann Dickenson, children; Maria Dickenson; Godfrey Dickenson, Mary Dickenson, Ann Dickenson and Harriett Dickenson] But now being stopped from work due to frost; implore for the relief to be sanctioned under article 6 of the Prohibitory Order. 2. Joseph Clarke [wife; Elizabeth Clarke, and six children, names not given] a drover by trade is out of employment due to severity of weather; relief given by relieving officer 2s 10s allowed and 2s and 24lbs in bread for one week. Requesting for a similar sanction. Annotated: sanction. Paper Number: 6920/1855. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
