- Folio 208. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to W E Goodacre, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, on a report received from Mr Weale, Poor Law Inspector, after visiting the Mansfield Workhouse on 2 February, on the subject of insufficient visits from the visiting committee. Stating that the Inspector had repeatedly drawn the attention of the visiting committee to the necessity of their regularly visiting the workhouse and adverting to their letter of 24 July last impressing upon this necessity. The Board considers these inspections important to secure the good management of the establishment. Attention of the guardians is drawn to articles 10& 11 Vict c 109 s 24, under which the board is required to appoint a paid visitor in cases when no visiting committee has been appointed or when an inspection of the workhouse has not been performed for three months.
