This series consists of all the surviving unregistered papers of the Financial Secretary and his immediate assistants and contains Treasury correspondence and material representing many of the more important financial aspects of the Ministry of Food's activities. It includes a collection of cables passing between various government departments at home and overseas, which were copied to the Ministry of Food because of their interest in food and food finance matters, reports and publications in connection with the Overseas Food and Queensland British Food Corporations.

The Finance Secretariat was mainly concerned with liaison with the Supply and Services Secretariats of the Ministry of Food to ensure the flow and dissemination of essential information within the various parts of Finance Department. The secretariat also collated views on matters of general finance and accounting interest and gave assistance as required to the Principal Finance Officer and all Finance Head-Quarters Sections.
