Folios 234-237. Letter to 'your Grace' [unidentified] from E Cunningham of Coates forwarding a letter from his outlawed cousin. Enclosed is a letter from [Captain] James Macrae at Montreuil-sur-Mer [France] seeking the addressee's patronage in securing him a Royal pardon for the fatal wounding of Sir George Ramsay in a duel, thus allowing him to return to Britain and his wife and young son whilst circumventing the politically-inspired prejudice that he feared would prevent him receiving a fair jury trial in Edinburgh.
