Description

Folios 151-152. Letter from Benjamin Sayer of the Custom House, Deal [Kent], stating that his secret enquiries, pursuant to Evan Nepean's directions to Mr Newport at Dover, had not led to the discovery of any vessel at Deal bound for France, but that he had place one suspicious lugger under surveillance and, because of the number of large lugsail boats in the Isle of Thanet that were suitable to be privateers, he had passed the warning to the customs officers at Sandwich and Ramsgate.
