Description
Content
Folio 147. Draft letter from [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Commission] to David W Hambly [David William Hambly] Collector of Rates for Kenwyn, Little Tregothnan near Chacewater in the Truro Poor Law Union, acknowledging his letter of 4 November 1843, in which he defended himself against charges made against him. By his own admission, he has kept his accounts irregularly. The payment of £5 to Nancy Williams for emigration, out of money he collected, was illegal and cannot be justified by an unauthorised direction from the vestry. However, the Commissioners will allow him to resign, if he does so immediately. Paper Number: 12887/A/1843. Poor Law Union Number 57. Counties: Cornwall.
