The Services Department of the Ministry of Food came into being at the time of the general re-organisation in January 1947 and comprised four groups and a Secretariat. The Services Secretariat acted as a co-ordinating body for the work of the Services Department and provided secretarial assistance for committees sponsored by the department. It also dealt with matters of general policy outside the scope of any one division. Its Export Policy Branch was responsible for ensuring that the food export policy of the ministry conformed to the principles laid down by the Government and inter-departmental committees.
