- Folios 349-351. Letter from James L Barker, Clerk to the Guardians of the Tynemouth Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, concerning an alternation in the dietary table for the inmates in the union workhouse, making an additional of six ounces of bread to their allowance and asking the commissioners to confirm this addition. An extract from the minutes of the Tynemouth Poor Law Union, on 20 June 1839, to this effect is enclosed. Enclosed: a dietary table for one week for breakfast, dinner and supper. Breakfast includes cornmeal and milk. Dinner includes milk, bread, boiled beef or mutton, hash and potatoes, boiled barley, suet pudding and vegetable broth. Supper includes milk, bread and broth. Vegetables in season can be used instead of potatoes. The diet of the sick is made according to the medical attendant. Annotated: recommend the proposed alteration to the dietary table. Paper number: 6074/B/1839. Poor Law Union Number 333. Counties: Northumberland.
