Folios 345-346. Letter from James L Barker, Clerk to the Guardians of the Tynemouth Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, concerning the right of guardians to vote. The problem arose from a meeting to appoint a register of births and deaths for Earsdon district. There were objection to the votes of Robert Taylor of Hartley and George Duxfield of Seaton Delaval, as it was said that they were not qualified to hold the office of guardian, as their names did not appear on any of the rate books of the union in the last 12 months. Annotated: if the facts are correct, they are not entitled to vote. Paper number: 4427/B/1839. Poor Law Union Number 333. Counties: Northumberland.
