Folios 335-336. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission, to James L Barker, Clerk to the Guardians of the Tynemouth Poor Law Union, acknowledging their letter of 13 May 1839 and informing the guardians that, because of a recent decision of the Court of the Queen's Bench, the residents of the township of Cowpen are to make the appointment of assistant overseer for the purpose of collecting rates. The position must now be nominated by the inhabitants of a township and be appointed by magistrates. Such person should be informed that the matter generally will shortly come before Parliament. [Folio 336 is a small paper tag.]. Paper number: 3325/B/1839. Poor Law Union Number 333. Counties: Northumberland.
