Description
Content
Folio 318. Letter, written as a private communication, from {J Sydney], Cowpen Township, Tynemouth Poor Law Union to Sir John Walsham, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner, thanking him for his opinion regarding Highhouse Colliery. Mr Watson, Overseer, wants to receive the bill from Mr Barker [James L Barker] and any legal opinion relating to colliery overseers, as he wants to pay all his bills at the end of his office next month. The ratepayers think the delay in valuing the township has been caused by Barker and want Mr Steel to accompany the valuers as he is incapable of being tampered with and that Mr Wilson of Cowpen Quay to act with Steel in regard to property. Some ratepayers, who are at present undervalued, want to keep the valuers in ignorance of the true value of their property. Paper number: 1752/B/1839. Poor Law Union Number 333. Counties: Northumberland.
