Description
Content
Folio 220. Draft letter from Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission, to Joseph Lowndes, Clerk to the Wolstanton and Burslem Poor Law Union, in reply to his letter of the 3 February, explaining proceedings accepted in September 1841, with regards to the lease granted by Mr Sneyd to the guardians of certain property belonging to the parish of Burslem which it is now proposed to let to the 'Principal Officer' of the Ordnance. A copy of an order authorising the guardians to let the property was attached to the letter. The order stipulated that the lessees shall require the guardians to insure the premises from fire. The Commissioners consider this necessary because of the peculiar nature of the title and the position in which the guardians stand with reference to the property, but leave it to the guardians to determine the annual amount of rent to be paid. The Commissioners approve the draft lease attached to the letter to them from the guardians dated 3 November last year for the alterations made herein, and now return the same. When the lease has been duly stamped by the parties it will be forwarded to the Commissioners for their seal and registration accompanied by the order [order and lease not included]. Annotated: order dated 14 February 1846. Paper number: 1871/B/1846. Poor Law Union Number 415. Counties: Staffordshire.
