Description
Content
Folio 199. Letter from Joseph Lowndes, Clerk to the Guardians of the Wolstanton and Burslem Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, acknowledging receipt of the Commission's letter Paper number: 15697/B/1845, which asked if the guardians hired premises for their own use as well as for parish officers. For the last five years, the guardians have held meetings at the union workhouse, Chell, from Lady Day to Michaelmas, and at the parish offices, Burslem from Michaelmas to Lady Day. No change in this arrangement is proposed, so the guardians will need a room for their own use and one for the relieving officer to pay the poor of Burslem and conduct his business. The premises referred to in Lowndes' letter of 6 December 1845 will meet the needs of the guardians and the parish officers. Annotation: 'bring me the workhouse papers for this Union', signed W G L [ William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Commission] Paper number: 483/B/1846. Poor Law Union Number 415. Counties: Staffordshire.
