Folios 196-197. Letter from Joseph Lowndes, Clerk to the Guardians of the Wolstanton and Burslem Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, enclosing a list of all lunatics and idiots chargeable to the parishes in the union on 1 January 1846, and a summary of the same, in accordance with 8& 9 Vic c 126 s 47 [not included]. Copies have been sent to the Clerk of the Peace for Staffordshire and to the Commissioners for lunacy. The list is required to be laid before the Visitors of the County Asylum; the guardians ask if forwarding the list to the Superintendent of the Asylum, with a request to lay it before the Visitors will constitute compliance with this requirement. Annotation: answer that it is not sufficient to send a copy of the list to the Superintendent, but it will be sufficient to send it to the Clerk of the Visitors of the Asylum. Mr Lumley [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Commission]. [Folio 196 is the year guard.] Paper number: 326/B/1846. Poor Law Union Number 415. Counties: Staffordshire.
