Folios 187-188. Letter from Joseph Lowndes, Clerk to the Guardians of the Wolstanton and Burslem Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, informing them that the Guardians have held their meetings at the Burslem Workhouse, where the parish offices have been located. As the workhouse has been let to the Board of Ordnance at a rent of £75 per annum, the guardians propose to rent a house and premises in Moorland Road, Burslem, as offices, at a rent of £20 per annum. The Commission's approval is requested. Annotation: enquire whether the guardians will need to hire premises. If the Guardians meet at the rented house, the rent must be charged to the establishment and to the parish of Burslem. Annotations bear name of Robert Weale [Assistant Poor Law Commissioner] and Mr Lumley [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the poor Law Commission]. Paper number: 15697/B/1845.
