Description
Content
Folios 161-162. Letter from Joseph Lowndes, Clerk to the Guardians of the Wolstanton and Burslem Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, acknowledging receipt of their letter Paper number: 12640/B/1845 of 17 September 1845, in which the Commission ask what is meant by the reference to 'Parochial Accounts', and if the treasurer has kept separate accounts with each parish in the union. The treasurers have kept separate accounts with each parish, in addition to the union Account, with calls and transfers being made quarterly, but the guardians have directed that the parish accounts be discontinued, and that money collected each week is immediately paid by the assistant overseer into the guardians' account. The object of reference to parochial accounts in Lowndes' letter of 11 September 1845 was that the amount paid to the treasurers by the parishes of Wolstanton and Burslem in seven years ending midsummer 1845 would give and average of £24 10s 7d per annum at Paper number: 1/4 % commission. Annotation: Mr Weale [Robert Weale, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner]. 12826/B/1845. Poor Law Union Number 415. Counties: Staffordshire.
