During the early years of the Ministry of Food one central registry was maintained and the papers in this series are generally those which originated in this period. As a result of rapid expansion it was necessary from 1940 onwards, to decentralise the registration system, and later series include papers in a variety of file series linked to the commodity of service concerned.
