By a private Act 4 and 5 William IV, c18, the tithes and dues payable to the rector and vicar of the parish of Kendal were commuted for a corn rent, the aggregate sum payable each year being apportioned among the twenty-seven townships comprising the parish of Kendal. A private Act of 1932 made provision among others for the redemption of this corn rent and certificates of redemption were issued in accordance with s11 (5) of the Act.
