The Courts Act 1971 led to a major reorganisation of the courts involving the replacement of courts of assize and quarter sessions by a Crown Court, forming part of the Supreme Court of Judicature, and being divided into districts to which circuit judges and officials were appointed. This resulted in the setting-up of a Circuit Administration. Circuit administrators were appointed to the districts with responsibility for tbe administration of the High Court, Crown Court and County Courts, and arrangements for sittings of judges and registrars within their areas.
