Description

Folio 30: John Bays, aged 25, Convict; disease or hurt, catarrhus. Put on sick list, 26 June 1835, at sea. Discharged, 2 July 1835.

Folio 30: James Neale, aged 19, Convict; disease or hurt, catarrhus. Put on sick list, 26 June 1835, at sea. Discharged, 2 July 1835.

Folio 30: William [Murray], aged 60, Convict; disease or hurt, vulnus. Put on sick list, 26 June 1835, at sea. Discharged, 2 July 1835. He had received a slight bruise on the left leg some days earlier which had become very painful, the surface abraded with a livid tumid halo surrounding it.

Folio 30: William Martin, aged 34, Convict; disease or hurt, scorbutus. Put on sick list, 26 June 1835, at sea. Discharged, 16 July 1835. He had several large blotches about the calves of his legs, rigidity and swelling of the ham, gums detached and bleeding.

Folio 31: George Freeman, aged 24, Convict; disease or hurt, scorbutus. Put on sick list, 26 June 1835, at sea. Discharged, 2 July 1835.

Folio 31: John [Cannel], aged 25, Convict; disease or hurt, abscesses. Put on sick list, 3 July 1835, at sea. Discharged, 10 July 1835. A large abscess under the chin which had been growing for upward of three weeks.

Rigidity and swelling of the legs, which had numerous small livid spots. Folio 31: John Jones, aged 23, Convict; disease or hurt, scorbutus. Put on sick list, 3 July 1835, at sea. Discharged, 18 July 1835.

Folio 32: John Welch, aged 24, Convict; disease or hurt, catarrhus. Put on sick list, 4 July 1835, at sea. Discharged, 10 July 1835. Headache, suffused eyes, frequent sneezing fits and a running nose.

Folio 32: Thomas Bachelor, aged 16, Convict; disease or hurt, vulnus. Put on sick list, 4 July 1835, at sea. Discharged, 10 July 1835. Divided the integuments on the inside of the right knee when he closed his knees together suddenly to catch a knife he had dropped.

Folio 32: Thomas Carey, aged 29, Convict; disease or hurt, herpes. Put on sick list, 4 July 1835, at sea. Discharged, 12 July 1835. Had a very irritable [herpetic cluster] about the size of a half crown on his left cheek, directly under the eye.

Folio 32: John Spencer, aged 19, Convict; disease or hurt, vulnus. Put on sick list, 4 July 1835, at sea. Discharged, 12 July 1835. Struck on the back of the head with a tin pannikin during a 'little dispute' at breakfast, dividing his scalp for an inch or so over the parietal bone.

Folio 33: James [Mily], aged 23, Convict; disease or hurt, catarrhus. Put on sick list, 6 July 1835, at sea. Discharged, 22 July 1835.

Folios 33-34: Henry Chaldwin, aged 25, Convict; disease or hurt, bronchitis. Put on sick list, 8 July 1835, at sea. Sent to the Colonial Hospital, Hobart Town, 4 August 1835. After the prison was closed the previous evening he had been seized with weakness of voice, hoarseness, an uneasy sensation in the larynx, with constant excitement to cough and an inability to free the larynx of some offending matter.

Struck on the face by a [bullet of round] thrown by an unknown hand while eating dinner quietly on deck, the integuments covering the chin were divided and he was laid prostrate for a minute or two, there was some bleeding which stopped when the edges of the wound were brought together.
