Folios 504-505. Letter from the marquess of Buckingham at Winchester [Hampshire] recommending [John] Nugent, lieutenant governor of the Leeward Islands and governor of Tortola [British Virgin Islands], for promotion to a governorship of greater rank. Buckingham also suggests that the home secretary might include a clause in his end-of-session hodge-podge bill renewing the king's powers to maintain troops at Winchester during assizes and elections. He concludes by drawing attention to the language and conduct of Major Poole, resident in Winchester but lieutenant-governor of Pendennis Castle [Cornwall].
