Folios 432-433. Letter to John Reeves [receiver of the Metropolitan police offices] from [Patrick] Colquhoun [magistrate of the Public Office, Shoreditch, Middlesex] reporting the results of his efforts to moderate the excessive expense of [Benjamin Henry] Latrobe's plan for improved accommodation at the Whitechapel Public Office. Colquhoun states that the required space could be achieved for £250 rather than £480 by stripping out all ornamentation, and asks Reeves to delegate execution of the works to Mr Davies [Whitechapel magistrate] and himself so as to be rid of the 'disagreeable business', believing that [William] Wickham would not return to the office until something had been done. Colquhoun goes on to describe the state of his campaign to achieve parliamentary regulation of old iron dealers.
