Letter from Thomas Orde [governor of the Isle of Wight] at Carisbrooke Castle asking for government protection of the island from enemy privateers and armed vessels, asking the home secretary to bring the problem to the notice of the Admiralty, War Office and Board of Ordnance, and enclosing a supporting letter [HO 42/25/3] from a magistrate in the south of the island.
