Folios 307-308. Letter from Joseph Lowndes, Clerk to the Guardians of the Wolstanton and Burslem Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, concerning the diet of workhouse inmates, enclosing Dietary approved by the guardians and requesting the Commissioners order of adoption. Enclosed is a form from Joseph Lowndes, Clerk to the Guardians of the Wolstanton and Burslem Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, listing ingredients for workhouse food/diet, including soup, broth, lobscouse, porridge, gruel and puddings. Included is weekly dietary allocation for paupers over 60 years of age, children under 9 years of age, children over 9 years of age and the sick; describing amounts of different foods given. Annotated: Mr Gilbert [William J Gilbert, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner], this may be confirmed 4 February 1841. Sanction and issue the necessary order WGL [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Commission]. 6 February 1841. Paper number: 1135/B/1841. Poor Law Union Number 415. Counties: Staffordshire.
