Folios 8-9: case no 1, Thomas Forbes, aged 27, private 99th Regiment, taken ill at Spithead; sick or hurt, catarrhus, of a dark complexion and of impaired constitution, on passage of the ship from the River Tames to Portsmouth was exposed to wet and cold while on duty on deck, complained of headache and general pains all over the body, cough and increased secretion from the mucus membrane of the nose, fauces and bronchi, oppression in the chest, impeded respiration, soreness of the throat; put on sick list 7 January 1842, discharged 19 January 1842 to duty.
Folio 10: case no 2, Timothy Leary, aged 19, convict, taken ill in English Channel; sick or hurt, phthsisi incipiens, of delicate habit of body and fair complexion, at present much debilitated and emaciated, stated that he was unwell with pulmonary complaints and was in hospital with the same affection, when he was repeatedly bled and blistered now had no pain in the chest the sound of which on percussion appeared clear and healthy; put on sick list 24 January 1842, discharged 12 March 1842 from the list.
Folios 11-12: case no 3, Joseph Mellor, aged 28, convict, taken ill in English Channel; sick or hurt, diarrhoea, of a delicate habit of body, fair complexion and impaired constitution, complained of griping pain in the bowels, frequent discharge of watery stools with straining. Ordered his [feet?] to be bathed in warm water and to have warm gruel, and barley water; put on sick list 2 February 1842, discharged 9 February 1842.
Folios 12-13: case no 4, John Ashton, aged 22, private 99 Regtiment, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, syphilis, pain and scalding heat on every attempted to make water, a discharge of a whitish fluid from the urethra and considerable redness and swelling of the penis, a thickening of the prepuce and paraphymosis; put on sick list 9 February 1842, discharged 25 February 1842.
Folios 13-14: case no 5, William Matheson, aged 22, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, ulcus, of a fair complexion, apparently healthy constitution, was a soldier and had lately a very dissipated irregular life, on board this ship was employed as a cook, but unable to continue at the duty from a sore of considerable size situated on the fore part of the tibia about the middle of the leg, the ulcer was of a dark unhealthy colour with irregular edges and uneven surface, the discharge was thin and sanious and the leg is red and inflamed; put on sick list 15 February 1842, discharged 22 April 1842 cured.
Folios 14-16: case no 6, Abraham Moses, aged 40, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, rheumatismus, of an impaired constitution and debilitated habit, complained of acute headache, pains in the back, loins and in all the limbs, stiffness and swelling in the knee and ankle joints of the right side; put on sick list 24 February 1842, discharged 20 March 1842 cured.
Folios 16-17: case no 7, Charles Thompson, aged 36, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, diarrhoea, a dark complexion and impaired constitution, had lived in the better classes of society and accustomed to good living, lately suffered much from great anxiety of mind, on account of the distressed state of his family, complained of looseness and pain in the bowels, feels weak and much debilitated and emaciated, his legs swelled and little or no appetite; put on sick list 27 February 1842, discharged 22 March 1842 cured.
Folios 17-18: case no 8, Alexander Brown, aged 25, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, hepatitis, a fair complexion and robust habit of body, complained of pain in the right hypochondrium increased on pressure, occasionally pain at the top of the right shoulder, appetite good, his urine high coloured; put on sick list 10 March 1842, discharged 21 March 1842 cured.
Folios 18-20: case no 9, John Smith, aged 37, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, synochus, a debilitated constitution and fair complexion, complained of cold chills, alternated with heat, acute headache, hot and dry skin, thirst, tongue foul and costive bowels; put on sick list 11 March 1842, discharged 5 May 1842.
Folios 20-21: case no 10, William McDonald, aged 20, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, ulcus, a robust habit and healthy constitution, was entered on the list with a foul ulcer of some size situated on the fore part of the tibia, has suffered for sometime and is getting worse, the edge of the sore are thick and prominent and an ichorous discharge, his bowels costive and suffered from headache; put on sick list 20 March 1842, discharged 31 March 1842.
Folios 21-22: case no 11, Frederick Sepncer, aged 18, convict, taken ill at [sea]; sick or hurt, concussion of the brain, a healthy constitution and robust habit of body, with the ship rolling lost his balance and was thrown on the deck with great force and received a blow on the back part of the head. On examining the body no external mark of injury was observed, complained of giddiness, ringing in the ears and appeared stupefied; put on sick list 10 April 1842, discharged 24 April 1842.
Folios 22-23: case no 12, Thomas Smart, aged 23, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, cynanche tonsillaris, a dark complexion and impaired constitution, complained of pain and difficulty of deglutition the internal fauces being of deep red colour and the right tonsil considerably swelled; put on sick list 15 April 1842, discharged 22 April 1842.
Folios 23-24: case no 13, John Wright, aged 45, convict, taken ill at [sea]; sick or hurt, rheumatismus, a melancholic temperament and impaired constitution form, complained of general debility and feebleness, headache and small quick pulse, skin dry, tongue foul, no appetite, bowels costive, urine high coloured and pains in all the limbs particularly the larger joints; put on sick list 15 April 1842, discharged 22 May 1842.
Folios 24-27: case no 14, George Heather, aged 27, convict, taken ill at [sea]; sick or hurt, rheumatismus, a sanguine temperament and spare habit of body, his constitution seems good and he in general enjoyed good health, complained of pains all over his body particularly the lower extremities and there was redness and swelling in the knee and ankle joints; put on sick list 23 April 1842, sent 23 May 1842 to hospital.
Folios 27-29: case no 15, William Last, aged 26, convict, taken ill off South West Cape Van Diemen's Land; sick or hurt, synochus, of a sanguine temperament and healthy constitution, complained of pains in the limbs, back and loins, cold chills, headache, quick pulse, skin hot, tongue foul and costive bowels; put on sick list 17 May 1842, sent 23 May 1842 to hospital.
Folios 29-30: case no 16, Isaac Cave, aged 21, convict, taken ill in the River Derwent; sick or hurt, cynanche tonsillaris, a dark complexion and good constitution, suffered from pains in the limbs, rigors and flushing with difficult deglutition, hoarse voice and inflammation of the tonsils; put on sick list 23 May 1842, sent 28 May 1842 to hospital convalescent.
