Folios 7-9: Unsigned insert written by the son of Surgeon George Rowe at St Mary's, Isles of Scilly, describing his father's illness and treatment between 5 December 1834 and 13 January 1835. Surgeon Rowe suffered oedematous swelling of the right leg and thigh, cough and expectoration. Surgeon Rowe's son apparently treats his father himself and may also be a surgeon, although he thanks Mr Blewitt, the surgeon, and Mr Smith, Resident Surgeon at Sandhurst.

Folio 12: Medical and surgical journal of New Grove Convict Ship between the 24 November 1834 and the 1 April 1835 during which time the said ship has been employed in conveying female prisoners to Van Dieman's Land. David Thomson Surgeon.

Folios 12-15: M A Williams, aged 25, [Convict]; disease or hurt, haemorrhoids terminating in abscess. Put on sick list, 25 November 1834, at Isles of Scilly. Discharged to the Colonial Hospital on arrival, 30 March 1835. Had suffered haemorrhoids for some time, sinuses formed and she also suffered paralysis of her left thigh and leg.

Folios 19-22: Caroline Burnett, aged 19, [Convict]; disease or hurt, leucorrhoea peritoneal inflammation. Put on sick list, 24 November 1834, at Isles of Scilly. Discharged to the Colonial Hospital, 30 March 1835, where she died the following day. Had been on the sick list with a venereal illness since embarking. When Surgeon Thomson took over he found her to be suffering 'what appeared to be internal haemorrhoids'. She improved until the 27 February when she was attacked by fever succeeded by pain of the abdomen. A post mortem examination found extensive peritoneal inflammation and a sinus penetrating her colon and allowing the contents into her abdominal cavity.
