Folios 4-6: case no 1, John Muirhead, aged 22, private 21st Regiment, taken ill at Deptford; sick or hurt, febris, diffused pain over the chest and in the back and extremities, pulse soft and little quick, tongue coated yellowish brown headache and thirst, reported to have been drinking very much on taking care of his comrades and friends; put on sick list 12 September 1832, died 16 September 1832, my opinion of his disease is that there was subacute inflammation of the brain ending in effusion or perhaps the state of that organ or of the stomach or both, which produced delirium tremous (the pathology of which medical writers are not unanimous about).
Folios 6-8: case no 2, Charles Cole [Coles], aged 23, prisoner, taken ill at Sheerness; sick or hurt, ophthalmia purulenta; put on sick list 18 September 1832, discharged 28 December 1832 cured, this man's eyes were closely watered during the remainder of the voyage, I found it necessary to use the solution of nitrate of silver many times and upon every threatening of inflammation, dropped a few under the lids with the best effects.
