Description

Folio 1: William Howard, seaman; taken ill off Cork; disease or hurt, hernia humoralis occasioned by accidental external violence; taken ill, 21 September 1817; discharged 2 October 1817 to duty.

Folio 1: Matthew Caroline, private 48th regiment; taken ill at Cove; disease or hurt, diaorhea [diarrhoea]; taken ill, 23 September 1817; discharged 25 September 1817 to duty.

Folio 1: John Slater, seaman; taken ill at Cove of Cork; disease or hurt, inflamed absorbents and inguinal glands from cold or strain; taken ill, 22 September 1817; discharged 7 October 1817 to duty.

Folios 1-2: William Cullen, private 48th regiment; taken ill at Cove; disease or hurt, boat fell from the booms and crushed on the body; taken ill, 3 October 1817; sent 3 October 1817 to military hospital Cove of Cork.

Folio 2: William Longshaw, private 48th regiment; taken ill at Cove of Cork; disease or hurt, severely bruised in one thigh and various other parts of the body by the same accident as the case above; taken ill, 3 October 1817; sent 3 October 1817 to military hospital Cove of Cork.

Folio 2: Sarah Mulligan together with 5 others from 48th regiment; taken ill at Cove of Cork; disease or hurt, severely wound in the head by the same accident as two cases above; taken ill, 3 October 1817; well 7 October 1817.

Folios 2-3: John Boardman, private 48th regiment; disease or hurt, lues venerea; taken ill, 8 October 1817; discharged 28 October 1817 to duty.

Folio 3: Ned Costelloe, convict; disease or hurt, large sloughing ulcer; taken ill, 23 December 1817; well 27 February 1818.

Folio 3: 23 and 24 December 1817; Michael McMahon, Edward O'Hara, William McGuigham, Robert Farrel, Edward Cunningham, Samuel O'Hara, John Keon, Patrick Hickey, Patrick Fealy, Arthur O'Neil, John Gallagher, James McGarrett, Owen Mullen and Patrick Graham, all these men had bad ulcers of those which were in sloughing state were treated first until they became clean, on leaving port experienced a heavy gale of wind which last some day, every convicts and many of sailors were sea sick, which probrably had a good effect upon the ulcers as many healed rapidly afterward, there were many minor cases which were all well within one month.

Folio 3: 25 December 1817; many convicts were much constipated in the bowels, many of them had not had an alvine evacuation for more than a week.

Folios 3-4: John Cartwright, aged 35, convict; disease or hurt, typhus mitior, having a wife and many children, the anxiety and lowness of spirits coupled with the fatigue experienced in a passage from Dublin has induced the fever which he is now affected; taken ill, 26 December 1817; well 2 February 1818.

Folio 4: William McCormick, convict; disease or hurt, contusion in the right side resulted by heaving at the capstan in weighing the anchor; taken ill, 1 January 1818; well 7 January 1818.

Folio 4: William McKeon, convict; taken ill at sea; disease or hurt, diarrhoea; taken ill, 2 January 1818; well 6 January 1818.

Folio 4: Ned Keavs, Edward O'Hara and 4 others were attacked by diarrhoea same as the case above; taken ill, 2 January 1818; well 5-7 January 1818.

Folio 4: John Covenagh, aged 14, convict; disease or hurt, contused and lacerated fingers; taken ill, 3 January 1818; well 14 January 1818.

Folios 4-5: William Barnwell, aged 24, convict; disease or hurt, contused and lacerated fingers; taken ill, 3 January 1818; well 14 January 1818.

Folio 5: Charles Rogan, convict; disease or hurt, colic; taken ill, 5 January 1818; well 7 January 1818.

Folio 5: Ned Castello, convict; disease or hurt, diarrhoea; taken ill, 5 January 1818; well 7 January 1818.

Folio 5: 6 January 1818; Henry McShane, Francis Gallaghan, Owen Wade, James McManus, James McInvoe, Michael Hanman, Michael York, Hughey Caughlan, Michael McGinnis, Patrick McKannan, Francis Gilhaney, Robert Farrel, Felix Gorman, John Mahon, Owen Mahony, William McGuiggan and 16 others complain of diarrheoa and some of colic, They all came round readily and none having any remain of disease on the 9 January.

Folio 5: John Butler, seaman; disease or hurt, febricula; taken ill, 7 January 1818; discharged 9 January 1818 to duty.

Folio 5: Laurence Laman, carpenter mate; disease or hurt, dysentery; taken ill, 7 January 1818; well 12 January 1818.

Folio 5: 7 January 1818; William Connell, Michael Hanlon, John Proctor, Pat Eviers, Abraham Fullart, Charles Corrigan, Henru Casidy, Pat Manahon, Pat Horhan, John Donagh, Bryan Bennett, Hugh Coglan, John McCann, Adam Briggs, John Trainer, John Quin, Hugh Gormley, Robert McGarrett, Pat Hickey, Simon McCullagh, Owen Wade, Richard Maton, James Colan, William Carter, John Downes, Dennis Corrin, James Miligan, [Psora?] they are men worst infected by itch. They were upward of eighty cases of the disease while in jail and just before they were sent on board.
